Quran Competition Held in South Korea

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The first national Quran competition in South Korea took place in the capital Seoul.

According to al-Waqi news website, 80 Quran memorizers from different parts of the East Asian country took part in the contest.


It was organized by South Korea’s Muslims Association in cooperation with the World Association of Quran Memorization.


The closing ceremony, where winners of the contest were awarded, was attended by Al-Hajj Abdul Rahim Shin, the head of South Korea Muslims Association, and Abdul Rahman Li Ju, the prayers leader of Seoul Islamic Center.


In their speeches, they underlined the need for learning the Quran and mastering the principles of Tajweed and recitation.


There are about 200,000 Muslims living in South Korea, including ethnic Koreans.


There are also 15 mosques nationwide, according to The Korea Herald daily.
