1st Batch of Chechen Pilgrims Leave for Hajj
According to Russia al-Yawm website, on Saturday, 150 pilgrims boarded the flight from Grozny to the Saudi port city of Jeddah.
According to the Muslims’ Religious Department of Russia, the Hajj quota for Chechen Muslims this year is 2600.
Ten more batches of pilgrims from the Russian Republic are planned to travel to the holy sites for Hajj in the coming days.
There will be 1.3 million pilgrims from different countries as well as 567,000 Saudi pilgrims taking part in the ritual this year.
Hajj is an annual pilgrimage that every able-bodied and financially able Muslim is obliged to undertake during their lifetime.
The Chechen Republic is a federal subject of Russia. It is located in the North Caucasus, situated in the southernmost part of Eastern Europe, and within 100 kilometers of the Caspian Sea.
According to the 2010 Census, the population of the republic is over 1,260,000. Chechnya is predominantly Muslim.
