"Their involvement was made possible due to efforts in attracting more agencies to be part of the program. We are glad that more agencies will be joining the #QuranHour program this year... (each will hold the program) at their respective places,” he said.
Jakfar said the #QuranHour program was one of many ways of restoring the importance of the holy book among Muslims.
"Through the program, we hope to increase awareness of Muslims in the republic to (encourage them to) study and practice the teachings of the Quran,” he said.
In Malaysia, the World #QuranHour will start at 8.30pm at Dataran Merdeka and at selected mosques nationwide.
It is being held in conjunction with the wuquf in Arafah, Mecca, on the ninth day of Zulhijjah of the Islamic calendar, which coincidently falls on Merdeka Day on Aug 31.
For one hour, Quran recitations will be held to encourage reading, understanding and discussions of the holy scripture.
