TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said that according to the Quran, being powerful is required for achieving peace and stability.

Addressing a military parade in Tehran on Wednesday, marking the National Army Day, Rouhani referred to verses 60 and 61 of the Holy Quran’s Surah al-Anfal “Mobilize your (defensive) force as much as you can to frighten the enemies of God and your own enemies…, If they incline to peace, incline to it also, and put your trust in Allah…,” and said that based on these verses, it is through legitimate power that one can respond positively to others’ call for peace.

The president underlined Iran’s resolve to enhance its defensive power and producing whatever weapons it needs for defense, adding that the country will not wait for others’ approval in this regard.

Nonetheless, he assured regional countries that the basis of Iran’s policy toward neighbors is good-neighborliness, reiterating that Iran has no intention of attacking others or their interests.

In its defense strategy, he said, Iran pursues deterrence first, and powerful defense next.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani underscored that the only path to peace and stability in the region and the world is political dialogue to resolve issues and peaceful conduct.

Iranian officials have time and again reiterated that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its defense power under any circumstance.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in February called for efforts to maintain and boost Iran’s defense capabilities, hitting back at the enemies for disputing the country’s missile program.

“Without a moment of hesitation, the country must move to acquire whatever is necessary for defense, even if the whole world is opposed to it,” the Leader said.
