Aksener in post on her Twitter account, congratulated followers of Islam on Eid al-Gahdir “that signifies fraternity of human beings regardless of their nationality, social class, and belief.”
Born in 1956, Aksener served as minister of the interior and was a vice-speaker of the Parliament. In 2016, she led a group of opposition within the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) against its leader Devlet Bahceli. On 25 October 2017, she founded İyi (good) Party, of which she is the leader.
She has been described as a devout Muslim who prays regularly.
The event of Ghadir, or Eid al-Ghadir, is celebrated by Shia Muslims around the world every year. It is among important feasts and happy holidays of Shia Muslims held on the 18th day of Dhu l-Hijja in the lunar Hijri calendar.
It was the day when according to reports, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) as his caliph and the Imam after himself following an order from God.
This year, Eid al-Ghadir falls on Thursday, August 30.
