Int’l Quran Competition to Kick Off in Tanzania Thursday
It is the third edition of the Quranic event, which is annually organized by the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema (scholars), according to Youm24 website.
There will be 88 contenders from 34 countries competing in the categories of Quran memorization and Tajweed and Tarteel recitation of the Quran.
The Mohammed VI in Dar es-Salaam will host this edition of the international Quran contest.
The participants represent the branches of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema in different countries.
The foundation is also going to mount a specialized Quran exhibition on the sidelines of the competition that will showcase the history, aesthetical aspects, and artistic varieties of copies of the Quran in Morocco.
On display will be copies of the Holy Book dating back to different eras, both manuscripts and those printed by Morocco’s Awqaf Ministry and Mohammed VI Quran Printing and Publication Institute.
The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, according to its founders, is an Islamic religious institution seeking to prevent radicalization and fight sectarianism within Islam.
The foundation’s goal is to unite and coordinate the efforts of Muslim theologians from Morocco and other African countries to consolidate Islamic values of tolerance and critical exploration of religious texts.
It also aims to facilitate intellectual, scientific and cultural action by bringing together Muslim theologians from around the world to encourage the establishment of religious, scientific and cultural centers and working towards the revitalization of a common African, Islamic cultural heritage.
