ICRO Raps Terrorist Attack Targeting Mosque in Pakistan’s Peshawar

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO denounced a terrorist attack at a mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan, that killed and injured tens of worshipers.

The martyrdom of worshipers in a mosque in Peshawar was yet another page in the bloody campaign of Takfiri terrorism and its regional and ultra-regional supporters against Islam, the statement said.

It added that countering such brutal attacks requires effective measures in the security and cultural fields.

It is Muslims’ demand that Pakistan’s government and security apparatuses should ensure the security of worshipers and adopt a decisive approach to prevent such bitter tragedies from happening again, ICRO stated.

It went on to say that in the field of culture, it is upon Muslim scholars, groups and governments to raise awareness about the nature of Takfiri terrorist discourse.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement and Yemen’s union of scholars also condemned the terrorist attack, calling on Islamabad to step up security measures tp prevent such attacks.

They also stressed the need for bringing the perpetrators of the heinous crime to justice.

A suicide bombing attack took place inside a mosque in the northern city of Peshawar, resulting in the deaths of at least 83 people and injuring 120 others.

According to the country's media, the attacker detonated the bomb while hundreds of worshipers, including police officers, were praying.

The roof of the mosque collapsed and many were trapped under rubble and the rescuers are trying to remove debris and save victims.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attack and promised stern action against those responsible.

Former PM Imran Khan also condemned the attack, calling for improved intelligence gathering and police equipment to combat terrorism.

Peshawar is the capital of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and has seen frequent militant attacks.

The Pakistani Taliban, a close ally of the Afghan Taliban, are suspected of the bombing.
