TEHRAN (IQNA) – Hijran Qaziuqlu is a scholar who has translated the Holy Quran into the language by Turkmen in Iraq.

Holy Quran

Qazuqlu, who is familiar with the latest Quran translation activities in Iran and Turkey, has rendered the Quran with a look at the latest works in the field.

Hijran Qaziuqlu was born in 1952 in Tuz Khurmatu, northern Iraq, into a Shia Turkmen family. He finished his elementary and high school studies in his hometown.

Due to his interest in poetry and literature, he would frequently go to literary circles in Tuz Khurmatu and Kirkuk and developed friendships with senior Turkmen literary figures.

He then spent some years in the holy city of Najaf to pursue seminary studies there.

Due to his struggle against the Ba’thist regime of Saddam Hussein, Qaziuqlu was on the regime’s wanted list and had to live secretly in different cities.

He then left for Iran and continued his seminary studies in the holy city of Qom.

Given his mastery over the Iraqi Turkish language and his seminary and religious studies, he embarked on translating the Quran, encouraged by Turkmen and Azeri authors and poets living in Qom.

His translation has some special features, including:

-The translator’s familiarity with the latest Quran translation efforts in Iran and Turkey and his review of the latest works in this field.

- His familiarity with classic Turkish poetry and prose.

- Using informal and folkloric words as long as they do not harm the translation.

The rendering was welcomed by Iraqi Turks as well as authors and literary figures of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Iranian Turks and language experts in Turkey.

Hijran Qaziuqlu has written other works as well, including:

1- Karbala Ulaylari (a selection of poems on Ashura) Qom, 1993

2- Husseinilar Wabashqa Shirlar (poems on Ashura and other topics) 3 volumes, Kirkuk, 1995-2—3

3- Quranin Kalama larija Wiri Wajiqlama (translation and interpretation of words of Quran) 2015

4- Tarikhla Shan Yakitlar (a selection of poetry and prose about resistance in Turkish) Kirkuk, 2016

5- Translation of the Holy Quran, Qom, 2016
