Muharram 2023: Ashura Mourning in Karbala in Pictures

KARBALA (IQNA) – Large masses of people assembled at the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS) in Karbala to mark the day of Ashura on July 29, 2023.

The day of Ashura is the 10th day of the Islamic month of Muharram, and it is a day of mourning for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.

The mourners in Karbala gathered at the shrines to pray, recite elegies, and beat their chests in remembrance of Imam Hussein and his companions. They also carried out symbolic reenactments of the Battle of Karbala.

The mourning in Karbala is a powerful expression of the faith and resilience of the Shia Muslim community. It is also a reminder of the importance of justice and the need to stand up to oppression.
