IQNA – A delegation from Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center visited the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS) in Karbala, Iraq.

 Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Sanmad Mahna, a senior advisor to the imam of Al-Azhar, led the delegation. 

They were welcomed by Sayyed Muhammad Ali Azhar and Hissam Muhammad al-Saeedi, officials with the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine, al-Kafeel website reported.

The Egyptian delegation visited different parts of the mausoleum and learned about the projects implemented by the Astan in the cultural, scientific and development fields.

Mahna, who is an international law professor at Al-Azhar, said it was his first trip to Karbala.

He said he began the trip with a visit to the shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS) as it is the gate to the holy mausoleum of Imam Hussein (AS).

Al-Azhar is the largest Islamic center of education center and university associated with Al-Azhar Mosque.

It was founded in Cairo in 972 by the Fatimid Caliphate as a center of Islamic learning.
