TEHRAN (IQNA) – Imam Hussein (AS) followed numerous objectives in his uprising, including establishment of divine rule, saving people from ignorance, and Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, which are rooted in the Quran.

My success is only through Allah

According to supplication such as what we read in the Ziyarat Arbaeen Supplication, Imam Hussein (AS) introduces himself as one who gifts his blood on the path of eradicating ignorance. This can also be seen in Shia Hadith books and has a Quranic basis.

He tried to revive the society by destroying the root of ignorance. Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice was the way Imam Hussein (AS) chose and took his family with him on this path to follow the divine goals and Sunnahs that have been mentioned in verses of the Quran.

Imam Hussein (AS) did all levels of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice and sacrificed his life for its realization. He introduced Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice as a culture to the society. He reached objectives such as reforming the society and removing ignorance and demonstrated the fact that on this path, one should even migrate to convey the message of truth.

God says in Verse 59 of Surah Al-Baqarah: “But the harmdoers tampered with Our Words, different from that said to them, and We let loose on the harmdoers a scourge from heaven as a punishment for their debauchery.”

This verse explains Imam Hussein’s (AS) struggle against Yazid and his role and offers the Quranic basis of Imam’s (S) uprising, which is confronting those who disobey God.

We read in Verse 88 of Surah Hud: “He said, ‘My people, do you not realize that I have received authoritative evidence from my Lord and have been granted a noble gift from Him? I do not want to oppose or ignore what I have prohibited you not to do. I only intend to reform you as much as I can. My success is in the hands of God. I trust Him and turn to Him in repentance.’”

The Master of the Martyrs (AS) launched the uprising with the aim of reform.

Sometimes methods are different. As we know, the struggles of the Imams (AS) (against oppression and injustice) differed.

Governance is a major capacity for implementing the teachings of Islam and moving toward its objectives but this was not one of the main objectives of Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising. In fact, through his uprising, Imam Hussein (AS) followed major objectives like removing ignorance, reviving the Sunnah of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, fighting with falsehood, upholding justice, and exposing the true face of unbelievers and hypocrites.
