Qadr Night in Mecca: Record-Breaking 2.5 Million Muslims Convene at Grand Mosque

In a historic gathering, 2.5 million Muslims converged at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Friday to commemorate one of the most sacred nights of Ramadan this year.

The General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques in Mecca and Medina reported that planning ensured the smooth flow of a substantial number of Umrah pilgrims during the night prayers held on the last Friday of Ramadan.

For believers, this night holds profound significance as it marks Laylat Al Qadr (The Night of Destiny)—the spiritual zenith of the holy month when the Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Mohammed Al Bassami, Director General of the Saudi Traffic Directorate, addressed reporters in Mecca, stating, “We planned for this large number of people both domestic and foreign pilgrims as well as worshippers from the local province of Makkah to descend on the holy grounds of the mosque and we can confirm that more than 2.5 million pilgrims prayed last night.”

To ensure the safety and orderliness of the event, security forces were doubled across the grounds, facilitating the management of the crowds who gathered to pray on this holiest night of Ramadan.

Local media outlets reported that the attendance at the prayers set a new record for the Grand Mosque. Its courtyards reached full capacity, accommodating the Umrah pilgrims and worshippers who assembled to perform the Isha, Taraweeh, and Qiyam Al Layl prayers.

While the specific date of the Qadr Night remains uncertain, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) affirmed that it occurs during the last 10 nights of Ramadan, with many believe it to be the 23^rd or 27^th night of the month.
